RU Hospital Bath gets Deaf Aware
2009-04-01
Deaf patients at the Royal United Hospital in Bath are set to receive a friendlier welcome. The hospital has commissioned SignTranslate to train 250 front-line staff in Deaf Awareness and the use of SignTranslate Hospital. Roger Hewitt, SignTranslate’s Deaf Ambassador, will be giving the training.
Staff are being encouraged to do the training to make services more accessible for Deaf patients and visitors. The hospital recognises that Deaf people's health suffers because of poor access.
The SignTranslate website will be used by hospital staff. The site provides webcam access to sign language interpreters over the internet if none are available in-person. It also provides clips of standard questions in BSL which can be used out-of-hours.
